The Greater Houston Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Alliance, a non-profit corporation, was formed in August 2009 by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Apache Corporation, Southwestern Energy and CenterPoint Energy, in partnership with the University of Houston Hobby Center for Public Policy. What makes the Alliance unique is its blend of university and private sector expertise. On the one hand, the University of Houston, with participants from UH Energy, is uniquely situated to provide independent analysis of various questions of interest to members. But, on the other, the private sector membership has the “on the ground” knowledge to provide the necessary information that supports research and outreach efforts.
The Alliance is envisioned to be a broad-based collaboration of private and public interests dedicated to:
- Raising awareness of natural gas vehicles to both policy makers and the general public.
- Providing leadership on the evolving natural gas vehicles marketplace, such as future infrastructure needs as well as environmental, economic and job creation benefits.
- Promoting the use and benefits of natural gas vehicles to public and private fleets in the Greater Houston area.
